Even traditional weddings can benefit from not-so-traditional uses of wedding flowers. Today’s modern bride puts flowers in every possible location at the wedding and reception; you can wrap, stuff, twist, and display them just about anywhere that you can imagine. Whether it’s a fairy tale theme or a more casual celebration, wedding flowers have gone from predictable and safe to unexpected and anything but humdrum.

If you want Fido to be a part of your big day, you can dress him or her up with a little “doggy boutonniere” or “doggy corsage.” Assuming your pooch is well-behaved, your canine companion will be a big hit with guests. You can wrap a few of your special flowers around your furry friend’s collar and he or she will be looking spiffy for the ceremony.

Crafty wedding coordinators have been known to make folding chairs more unique by twisting flowers around the chair backs. Fresh rose petals can be bought by the thousands and are perfect not only for the flower girl, but also as displays across the reception hall tables. The lavatory is often forgotten about, but guests will appreciate a display of wedding flowers by the sinks.

Wreaths are now popular year-round and are not just for Christmas – they are perfect as door decorations at weddings. Rather than buying an artificial wreath, why not make your own with fresh flowers? Craft stores supply wreath forms, wires, and hangers. White and spring green wreaths are the most popular, but less traditional weddings can get away with any color combinations. Don’t forget to put wreaths on both the exterior and interior doors at the ceremony and reception hall.

For those daunted by the sheer volume of flowers needed for the big day, wedding flowers can be bought as a collection in a boxed set. This sort of set allows for a cohesive feel, yet anyone can set them out without having to worry about whether they match or not.
